As Turkey's first glass fiber producer, Şişecam has operated in this key field, which provides one of the core inputs of the composite industry, since 1975. Şişecam's investment strategy is focused on generating sustainable value. Combining its 45 years of experience in glass fiber with state-of-the-art technology, Şişecam commissioned its new glass fiber investment in Balıkesir in early 2019. Şişecam is one of Europe's most important glass fiber producers. The glass fiber produced at Şişecam's Balıkesir facility is exported and used in countries around the globe. Equipped with cutting-edge technology, the glass fiber production facility bolstered Şişecam’s position as one of Europe's - important glass fiber producers with its continuously increasing production capacity and deep sector experience. Currently, Şişecam turns local resources, primarily boron, into value-added products at its Balıkesir glass fiber facility. Driven by its expertise in this area, Şişecam provides input to numerous industries – including wind energy, electronics, automotive, construction, defense, marine and engineering plastics – while also serving as a solution partner.
Şişecam provides strategic business partners and stakeholders in the composite industry with expanding production, distribution and service capabilities. The Company also acts as the assurance of local glass fiber supply for the sector in the domestic market. Şişecam manufactures glass fiber in accordance with TSE ISO 9001, 14001, and 50001 quality standards. The Company serves domestic and international markets with a range of products – including Chopped Strand Mats, Multi-End Rovings, Single-End Rovings and Chopped Strands – certified by independent international quality organizations such as Lloyd, ACS, RJS, TZW, and DNV GL. Şişecam serves markets worldwide, with a focus on Europe, with world-class products, and continues to operate in four main segments of glass fiber to reach all composite industry.
As with all glass-related fields, Şişecam successfully responds to the ever-evolving needs of the composite industry. The Company develops innovative products and advanced technologies at the Şişecam Science, Technology and Design Center, a 9,400 square meter facility in Gebze, Kocaeli. Şişecam also creates value for its stakeholders by sharing its know-how at international glass symposiums it organizes.
